Remove Ear Wax with These Natural Remedies

Remove ear wax with these natural remedies. Excess ear wax can block up your ears causing pain and even difficulty hearing. These natural remedies for ear wax will help soften hardened wax so it can be removed more easily.

Hydrogen Peroxide

My husband is a professional musician and often has problems with ear wax build-up. Hydrogen peroxide works well for him. Hydrogen peroxide will help dissolve and loosen some of the wax. It's a cheap remedy too.

Place a towel under your head and lay on your side with the affected ear up. Simply use an ear bulb to squirt hydrogen peroxide into your ear. It will fizz up quite a bit. Don't worry that's normal. Once it stops fizzing add a bit more hydrogen peroxide. Do this a few times to help dissolve the wax.

Sometimes my husband feels some squishiness in his ear once he's done this. That means that not all of the wax has been dissolved. When that happens usually a clump of wax will fall out of his ear later in the day or during the following day.

Don't use this technique if you have ear or jaw pain because it might make it feel worse. Don't use this method before you're going to fly on a plane. If you're planning on flying allow for several days to pass between removing the wax and flying.

Irrigation

You can use a bulb to flush warm water into your ear. The water should feel slightly warm to the touch. When you squirt the water into your ear angle it slightly up so it cascades along the roof of the ear canal instead of squirting directly in. Flush your ear out a few times to remove excess wax.

After irrigating your ear make sure to dry it well. You can use a hair dryer set on a low setting to make sure your ear is thoroughly dry.

Warm Olive Oil

Put warm olive oil into your ear to soften wax. Warm the olive oil slightly and use a medicine dropper to put the oil in your ear. Leave the warm oil in your ear for 10 minutes before draining it out.
