Natural Sinus Remedies

Natural sinus remedies can be made at home. Here of some of the best natural remedies for sinus infections that you can do yourself. Sinus problems can be very uncomfortable. I know. I used to suffer from sinus infections yearly.

Use these natural sinus remedies in conjunction with treatment from your doctor for the best results.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar thins mucus making it easily for your body to get rid of. This natural remedy is best when used as a preventative measure. Take it when you feel a sinus infection coming on and you will kick the infection before it even starts.

Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to and 8 oz glass of water and drink it down quickly.

Garlic

Garlic has antibacteral properties that can help cure sinus problems. You can take garlic in capsule form. Take a 500-600 milligram capsule 3 times daily to fight sinus infections. Eating cooked garlic won't help because cooking it deactivates its healing properties.

You can use a garlic oil to help clear up your infection also. Roughly chop a head of garlic and place it in a container. Cover it with olive oil and let it stand for 1 day. Before going to sleep at night rub the oil all over your feet, put on socks to protect your sheets and go to bed. The garlic oil will absorb into your skin. It really doesn't matter where you rub the oil, but it's best to put it as far away from your nose as possible. My husband had a sinus infection recently and we tried this remedy on him. After two days his infection cleared up. His sweat reeked of garlic though.

You can also use a garlic press to extract juice from a fresh clove of garlic. Use a medicine dropper to put a few drops of garlic juice into each nostril. Hold your head back to keep it up there for 5 minutes. Then put your head up and let the juice drain into a tissue. Do this once a day. That should really clear you out.

Acupressure

There are acupressure points that you can use as natural sinus remedies. Here is a video explaining the most commonly used one.

Hot Water Bottle

Hold a hot water bottle against your nose and forehead to alleviate the pain of a sinus infection.

Herbs

The following herbs can be used to help fight a sinus infection.

  • Echinacea
  • Astragalus
  • Oregon graperoot
  • Usnea
  • Grapefruit seed extract

Oil Pulling

Oiling pulling is an Ayurvedic detoxification method that can help relieve congestion. Use an organic cold pressed oil. Traditionally sunflower or sesame oil are used, but you can use any cold pressed oil. Many people use coconut oil for oiling pulling.

First thing in the morning before you brush your teeth, put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth and slowly swish it around for 15 minutes. Be sure to get every area of your mouth. After 15 minutes spit the oil out in the toilet. If you use coconut oil spit it out in the trash. Coconut oil can clog your pipes. Rinse your mouth well. Then brush your teeth.
