Need a natural remedy for osteoporosis? The brittle bones caused by osteoporosis make you more susceptible to getting breaks. Here are some tips to help you build stronger bones naturally.

Osteoporosis occurs when your bones become brittle and porous. It affects women more often than men and older women are in the greatest risk group. This disease runs in my family and my grandmother has it very badly. She has a pronounced hump in her back produced by broken vertebrae and all of her ribs are broken from the disease.

If you know that osteoporosis runs in your family or if you already have the early stages of the disease taking a few steps to build bone strength will save you a lot of pain and suffering in the future.

Exercise

Weight bearing exercises help strengthen and build bone. Doing some kind of weight bearing exercise just three times a week for thirty minutes can help build your bone strength. Weight lifting, walking, running and hiking are all considered weight bearing. Swimming isn't weight bearing, but walking in a pull with the water at chest height provides enough resistance for that to be considered a weight bearing activity.

These herbs can be used as a natural remedy for osteoporosis.

  • black cohosh
  • dong quai
  • vitex

Diet

Diet is another important factor in any natural remedy for osteoporosis. Your body needs to get the vitamins and minerals it needs to build strong healthy bones. You get these vitamins and minerals from eating a healthy diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, magnesium and phosphorous.

If your diet is too acidic your body will begin to pull calcium from your bones. That's why it's important to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables to make your system more alkaline. Dark green vegetables like broccoli and kale are especially good for bone health.

Dairy products like cheese, milk, and yogurt contain calcium that your body can use to build healthy bones.

Soak and sprout all of your grains before eating them. Grains contain phytic acid that can neutralize the absorption of calcium into the body.

Alcohol, smoking and caffiene are all associated with bone loss and need to be avoided.
