Natural Remedies for Scabies

Natural remedies for scabies don't work as quickly as conventional medical treatments, but they don't cause the same harmful side effects as conventional treatments either. For home remedies for scabies to work you have to be extra diligent. This condition is highly contagious and you can even re-infect yourself if you're not careful.

Cleanliness

To avoid re-infection or infecting others in your family you must be very diligent about keeping your body and the things you come in contact with clean. Avoid touching the affected area. When you do touch it wash your hands well with hot water and use a nail brush to scrub under your nails. The mites that cause scabies are easily passed through contact.

Wash all clothes, sheets, towels, and wash clothes in hot water daily. Wear fresh clean clothes everyday.

Keep the area covered. So the mites don't get on furniture or in your carpet. Wear long pants or long sleeves to cover the area.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree essential oil is anti-inflammatory. It will kill the mites and relieve itching. You can apply undiluted tea tree oil to the area as needed to relieve itching. You can also put 10 drops of oil in your bath water.

Undiluted tea tree oil can be a skin irritant. If you have sensitive skin do a patch test before using the oil as a treatment.

It will take two weeks for the mites to go away.

Neem Oil

Neem oil is great for killing mites. It will also reduce swelling, redness,itchiness and pain. You can add two tablespoons of neem oil along with an emollient like soap to your bath and soak in it for 15 minutes. Then wash yourself thoroughly with neem soap. You can buy neem soaps and shampoos from the health food store or online.

You can also apply neem oil to the affected area directly as needed.

Margosa Oil

Massage margosa oil into the affected area as needed. You can also add a few tablespoons of margosa oil to your bath just like you would the neem oil.
