Natural Remedies for Mange in Dogs

Looking for natural remedies for mange? When your dog is experiencing problems with mange it's best to treat it right away because if left untreated for a long period of time it could be life threatening. You can use home remedies for mange to treat the problem.

Mange is caused by a parasitic infestation of mites. The mites burrow into your dog's skin causing an allergic reaction that makes your pet's fur fall out. In order to get rid of the allergic reaction you have to kill the mites.

Hydrogen Peroxide and Borax

One of the best natural mange remedies uses two simple ingredients that you can get at most drug stores. Mix 8 tablespoons borax with 8 ounces hydrogen peroxide and 4 cups warm water. Don't substitute use boric acid as a substitute. Boric acid is more toxic and will make your pet sick. Wash your dog with this mixture once every 3 days. Don't rinse it off or towel dry your pet. Instead let it drip dry. You will see improvements right away and the mange should go away completely in 2 weeks.

Neem Oil

Neem oil one of the affective natural remedies for mange. It is quite strong so you probably want to avoid using undiluted oil on your pet. Instead dilute it with a carrier oil like olive oil at a 1 to 1 ratio. You can then put the mixture on the area that is having problems.

You can also make a neem oil spray and use it on your dog to prevent mites and other insects from biting.

Essential Oils

Mix 10 drops grapefruit seed extract, 6 drops goldenseal root, 3 drops olive leaf extract and 6 drops pau d'arco. Spray the mixture on the area once daily. Keep it away from your dog's eyes.

Tea Tree Oil

Wash your dog well with tea tree oil shampoo. Put undiluted tea tree oil directly on the areas that are affected by the mange.

Other Tips

Even while you're using natural remedies for mange to treat your pet it could be getting re-infected by something in or around your home. Wash all the bedding your pet comes into contact with in hot water. Clean your floors well to get rid of mites.

If your pet keeps getting re-infected with mange try confining your pet to a sterile area and keeping him there during treatments.

Make sure your pet is getting a healthy diet. A dog that is eating well will have a healthy immune system that is equipped for warding off mites and other parasitic infections.
