Natural Remedies for Dry HairUsing natural remedies for dry hair will make your hair soft and moisturized without exposing your scalp to chemicals and additives.
Shampoo The shampoo you use may be drying your hair. Many shampoos contain a harsh cleanser called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). This chemical makes the great bubbles that we all like to feel when we wash our hair. The problem is that it also strips all of the moisturize from your hair. You can buy sulfate free shampoos at health stores, beauty supply stores and online. Some of the most famous sulfate free brands are Aubrey's Organics, Giovanni's and Deva Curl. Washing your hair too often can also cause it to dry out. Instead of washing your hair once a day try washing it every other day or every two days. Conditioning Giving your hair a good deep conditioning will help get rid of dryness. You can buy a deep conditioner at the store or you can just use the mayonnaise you already have in your refrigerator. Just apply a generous amount of mayonnaise to your hair. Then cover your head with a plastic cap or plastic bag and let it sit for thirty minutes. Wash it out with a gentle shampoo. Hot oil treatments also act of great conditioners for dry hair. You can use olive oil or coconut oil. Heat the oil slightly and then apply it to your hair. Let it sit under a plastic cap or plastic bag for 30 minutes and then shampoo it out. Water One of the best natural remedies for dry hair is water. The only thing that will truly moisturize your hair is water. Try misting your hair throughout the day with filtered water. Make sure the water is filtered because the chlorine normally found in tap water is drying to the hair. You also may want to buy a filter for your shower head. The minerals and chemicals found in tap water can dry out the hair and scalp. Oil Put a bit of natural oil on your damp hair once you get out of the shower. The oil acts as a sealant holding in the moisture. Don't use oil on hair that is already dry. You can use coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, and castor oil. Castor oil is quite heavy and I'd only recommend it for coarse hair. Essential Oils You can add a few drops of a moisturizing essential oil to the water your mist your hair with or to the oil you use in your hair. Try one of these essential oils.
Don't use rosemary oil if you're pregnant. It can cause uterine contractions and pre-term labor. Styling Avoid styling with heat. Heat used on your hair pulls the moisture out. Avoid using blow-dryers, flat irons and curling irons. Brushing your hair excessively will also contribute to it's dryness.
