A Natural Remedies for a UTI

Looking for a natural remedies for a UTI? These home remedies for a urinary tract infection will help clear the bacteria out of your urinary tract so you feel better.

If your UTI lasts more than a few days get medical attention to treat it. Infections can become more serious moving up the urethra to the bladder and from the bladder to the kidneys. If you experience low back pain see a doctor immediately. This could be a sign of a kidney infection.

Cranberries

These home remedies for UTIs always work for me. Buy a bag of cranberries. If they're not in season you can sometimes get them in the frozen food section. Put all the cranberries in a big pot of water and boil them from an hour. The cranberries should be mushy. Then drink the liquid throughout the day. You should drink the whole pot of cranberry liquid within a 24 hour period. It's bitter but don't put any sugar in it. You'll get used to the taste.

The first time I tried this method for getting rid of my UTI I was surprised at how well it worked.

When I can't get cranberries I just take cranberry pills. You can get them in any pharmacy.

You can also drink pure unsweetened cranberry juice. You usually have to get this from a health food store and it's quite expensive. Don't buy regular cranberry juice that you can get from the grocery store. That won't work.

Blueberries

Pure blueberry juice is hard to come by, but blueberries like cranberries fight UTIs. While you may not be able to consume enough blueberries to work on their own, you can eat them in addition to other home UTI remedies you're using.

Herbs

You can take any of these herbal supplements as natural remedies for a UTI.

  • uva ursi
  • echinacea
  • horsetail
  • goldenseal
  • marshmallow root
  • corn silk
  • buchu

Baking Soda

Add one teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water. Drink this mixture at the first sign of a urinary tract infection. It will lower the acidity of your urine to help you flush out the infection. Once you do that drink 1 full glass of water every hour for 8 hours.

Prevention

If you are prone to UTIs prevention is key. One of the most important things you can do to prevent a UTI is stay well hydrated. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

Wear cotton underwear. Cotton allows your skin to breathe. Synthetic undies promote the growth of bacteria that causes infections.

Pee before and after sex. Urinating before and after sex will prevent bacteria from gathering in your urinary tract.

Avoid artificial sweeteners, alcohol and caffiene. All of these substances irritate the bladder.
