Natural Eczema Remedies

These natural eczema remedies will help you get rid of the itchiness, swelling and redness associated with eczema. The first few remedies on this page deal with providing you with temporary topical relieve. The final solution helps you understand how dietary changes can give you permanent relief.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree is an essential oil that is popular to use on eczema. Tea tree oil can be applied to eczema patches to relieve itchiness and get rid of redness and swelling. It is a commonly used home remedy for eczema.

There are lotions and cleansers on the market that contain tea tree oil. They are good to use and can usually be found in your local health food store.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil also relieves the symptoms of eczema. You must dilute this oil before putting it directly on the skin. You can put a few drops of peppermint oil in a carrier oil or even put some peppermint oil in your bath.

Emu Oil

Emu oil is excellent at reducing redness, swelling and itchiness. It can be used as one of the effective natural eczema remedies.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal does wonders to soothe itchy skin. For this natural remedy for eczema cook some plain oatmeal and put it in a cotton cloth and tie the ends securely together. I usually use an old pillow case and knot it closed. Put the cloth in a warm bath. Soak in the bath for about 20 minutes.

Diet

The topical natural eczema remedies listed above will help get rid of eczema flare-ups when they strike, but the best natural eczema remedies will get rid of your eczema once and for all. The only way to really do that is with diet.

People who have eczema generally have a deficiency in omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids can be found in fish and flax seed. Adding this fatty acid to your diet will reduce your flare-ups.

Food intolerances also play a role in eczema. Common food intolerances include sensitivities to dairy and gluten. Cutting these foods out of your diet may also decrease flare-ups.

Start by removing all processed foods from your diet. That means you shouldn't eat anything that is pre-made. Include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet. You should also only eat good quality meats. When I say good quality I mean they should be free range organic meats. Try getting meat from a local framer instead of from the grocery store.

Up your intake of omega 3 fats. Try having fish twice a week. You can also take a fish oil supplement. Sprinkle flaxseeds on your salad or make a salad dressing with flaxseed oil.

Once you've made these changes see what happens. If you continue to have flare-ups cut gluten out of your diet. If flare-ups continue cut dairy out also. If making these changes doesn't get rid of your eczema going on a stricter elimination may be necessary.

The GAPS Diet is a good elimination diet to try. You can read up on it in the book Gut and Psychology Syndrome and GAPS Guide .
