Hyssop

Hyssop is mentioned in the Bible as an herb used in sacred purification rituals. This herb has a bitter minty taste and is used in cooking soups, meats and sauces. It also has medicinal properties.

This herb is also known as curdukotu, hisopo, yanagi-hakka, and hastipippili.
Appearance
This herb is a member of the mint family. It grows to be 60 cm tall. It has woody, squarish stems and narrow leaves that grow opposite each other. It grows purplish blue flowers in the spring. There are also varieties that grow pink or white flowers, but those are more rare. It's strong smell attracts bees.
Origins
The plant is native to southern Europe.

The stem, leaves, and flowers are used.
Medicinal Uses
This herb is a stimulant and an expectorant. It can be used to treat the following conditions:
- coughs
- gas
- indigestion
- respiratory problems
- asthma
- muscular rheumatism
- high blood pressure
- herpes
