Home Remedy Tooth Whitening Natural Teeth Whitening Solutions
Home remedy tooth whitening recipes can be found all over the web. Which natural teeth whitening remedies work? Which ones are harmful to your teeth?
While some people will try most anything to get that white movie star smile, it's important to know that many of the remedies you can find online will damage your teeth in the long run.
First let's look at some common home remedies used for whitening teeth and how they might cause damage. Than let's look at some safe, simple solutions.
Lemon Juice
This is a home remedy tooth whitening solution I've seen in many places on the web. Brushing your teeth with lemon juice is a common natural tooth whitening solution that can do damage to your teeth. Lemon juice is an acid that eats away at your enamel. It works for making your teeth white, but it will also weaken your teeth giving you more cavities and problems in the future.
Using any acidic solutions on your teeth will cause you problems in the long run.
Strawberries
Some people have found tooth whitening success mashing up strawberries and using them to brush their teeth. It's supposed to work. Honestly, I haven't tried it. I want to let you know about some of the possible problems with it.
Like lemon juice, strawberries are acidic. They aren't as acidic as lemons, but they can still do some damage to your teeth. They also contain sugar that will promote cavitites.
If you choose to use this home remedy tooth whitening solution you must make sure you brush your teeth afterward.
Baking Soda (Barcarbinate of Soda)
One of the most popular home remedy tooth whitening solutions is brushing your teeth with a paste made from baking soda. Baking soda is a powerful tooth whitener. You can find it in whitening toothpastes.
The problem with using baking soda all the time is that it's abrasive. The abrasive nature of baking soda causes it to wear away your enamel. Again this can cause the formation of cavities in the long run.
You can brush your teeth with this paste, but don't do it everyday. Try doing it once every other week or at the most once a week.
Safer Teeth Whitening Home Remedies
The remedies above are remedies that people use, but I don't necessarily endorse them for tooth whitening. Here are some other solutions that you can use for tooth whitening that aren't damaging to your teeth.
Olive Oil
This is a really simple solution that will make your teeth look whiter right away. Just put some olive oil on a clean cotton cloth and rub your teeth with the oil. It sounds crazy, but it works. It doesn't hurt anything to give it a try.
Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that's used to detox the body. It's simple to do and as a side effect of the other great benefits it whitens your teeth.
You should oil pull first thing in the morning before you brush your teeth. You need to use cold pressed oil. Traditionally sesame oil is used, but you can use any cold pressed vegetable oil. Coconut oil is a good oil to use.
Put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth, and swish it around slowly for 15 to 20 minutes. I know that sounds like a long time. You may have to work yourself up to it. When I first started oil pulling I could only do it for 10 minutes than slowly I was able to do it longer.
Make sure you swish the oil around all of your mouth. Don't just hold it in one place. Don't swallow any of the oil. It's full of toxins.
After 15 to 20 minutes spit the oil out in the toilet, rinse your mouth out well and brush your teeth. If you used coconut oil, spit it out in the trash because over time it will clog up you pipes.
That's it. You can do this one to three times a day. It's cheap and easy.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Rinse your mouth out with hydrogen peroxide once a day for about 1 minute. Be sure not to swallow any of the peroxide. When you're finished rinse your mouth out well with water and brush your teeth. Using this method too often may cause some discoloration on the inside of your mouth.
