Making Herbal Tea Remedies

You can make herbal tea remedies at home to help boost your immune system, help you sleep at night, get over the common cold, and many other things. Unlike herbal infusions, which are steeped for four to eight hours, tea is steeps for a few minutes up to a half hour. I drink herbal infusions daily, but I also drink herbal teas.

Some herbs like chamomile or peppermint contain chemicals that are toxic if steeped for too long. You can't make infusions out of every herb. Only nourishing herbs can be used like nettle and oatstraw can be used. Other herbs can be used for teas, but again not all herbs can be used for tea.

You can buy loose herbs and make your own tea teas by combining them. Use a tea ball, tea pot or other tea straining device to steep your teas. You can even use a French Press if you like. You can make teas from both fresh and dried herbs. If you grow herbs in your garden that's great. If not buy dry herbs. I buy my herbs at Mountain Rose Herbs. Tea Recipes

Ginger is a great herb to use for making teas. It is an anti-inflammatory. It boosts the immune system and soothes the digestive tract.

Ginger Tea

  • 2 inch piece ginger
  • 6 cups water

Grate the piece of ginger into a pot of water. Bring it to a boil. Turn off the heat, cover the pot and let it steep for 15 minutes. Add lemon and honey to taste and enjoy.

When making teas out of roots you can boil the root in the pot with the water. When making teas out of leaves or flowers pour freshly boiled water over the herbs and let them steep.

Having a cold really sucks. Try this tea to help knock it out fast.

Cold Remedy Tea

  • 1 part yarrow
  • 1 part elderflower
  • 1 part peppermint

Combine the herbs well. Steep 1 to 2 teaspoons of the mixture in a cup of freshly boiled water for 15 minutes.

Horsetail tea is great to help build strong bones, teeth, tendons, and ligaments. I drink horsetail tea daily because osteoporosis runs in my family. Just steep two teaspoons of horsetail in a cup of freshly boiled water.

Chamomile tea helps calms the nerves and helps you get a good night's sleep. You can find it in most stores or make it for yourself.

Herbal tea remedies don't just taste great, they can be used medicinally to help you feel great too. I recommend adding them to your routine. Don't over do it. Overdoing anything can be bad.
