Guggul is a dried resin that comes from the commiphora wightii tree. This resin has been used in Ayurvedic treatments for thousands of years.
Other Names
This herb is also known as commiphora mukul, Indian Bedellium, and mukul myrrh.
Appearance
The name of the small tree or shrub that poduces commiphora mukul is commiphora wightii. It has an ash colored, thin, paper-like bark and grows to be 4 meters tall. The tree grows small white and pink flowers and thorny branches.
Origins
The tree is native to northern Africa and central Asia.

The sap or resin are used.
Medicinal Uses
This herb is used to treat:
- arthritis
- high cholestrol
- heart problems
- hemorrhoids
- obesity
- lung problems
- weakened immune system

Side Effects and Warnings
In some cases this herb has caused skin irritation, diahrrea, hiccups, and anxiety.
You shouldn't take it while you're pregnant or nursing. I can cause uterine contractions.
You should be careful if you are taking prescription medication or other herbal products. If you are taking heart medicine you should take this herb.
