It's the root of the zingiber officinale plant. It can be found in a few varieties including Jamacia, African and Cochin. It's called srngaveram in Sanskrit.
Appearance
The plant grows to be about 4 feet tall. It grows straight stems with long, narrow, green leaves.

The plant is native to Africa, South East Asia, India, Jamaica, and Central America.

This herb is an anti-inflammatory and stimulant. It is commonly used in traditional medicine practices throughout the world.

Side Effects and Warnings
This herb is generally considered safe, but you shouldn't take it if you have gallstones because it causes you to produce more bile.
Consuming it daily can interfere in the absorption of some minerals including iron and fat-soluble vitamins.
