Calendula
Natural Healing Herbs
Calendula is a bright flower that has been used for its healing properties for centuries. The first recorded use of it was in India and in the Middle East. It was also used by ancient Egyptians and on the battle fields during the American Civil War.
Other Names
This herb is more commonly known as pot marigold, but is also called holligold, mary-bud and goldbloom.
Appearance
This hardy plant is an annual. It grows in sunny areas. The leaves are dark green and slightly hairy. The flowers are daisy-like and range in color from light yellow to deep orange.
Origins
The plant is native to southern Europe.

The flowers of the plant are used.
Medicinal Uses
This herb is anti-viral and anti-inflammatory. It can be used both externally and internally to treat:
- herpes
- burns
- bug bites and stings
- control bleeding internally and externally
- constipation
- abdominal cramps
- inflammation
- skin irritations
- diffulties during childbirth
- ringworm
- gingivitis
- varicose veins
- eczema

Side Effects and Warnings
There are no none side effects, but as with all herbs you should take some precautions. If you take prescription medication ask your doctor before taking it. You shouldn't take it when your are nursing or pregnant.
