Blue Cohosh

Blue cohosh was used by Native Americans to ease the pain of childbirth. Because it causes the uterus to contract they also used it as a form of birth control.
Other Names
This herb is also called Caulophyllum thalictroides, blue ginseng, yellow ginseng, blueberry root, beech drops, and papoose root.
Appearance
This plant grows a single stalk that is 2 1/2 feet tall. The leaves are large and have a bluish tint. They have three serrated points. They also grow small berry that look similar to blue berries.
Origins
It is native to North America.

The roots are dried and used.
Medicinal Uses
This herb is used to treat uterine problems.

- dysmenorrhoea
- false labor pains

If you have a digestive problem or high blood pressure this herb may aggravate your condition.
You should not take this herb if you are pregnant or nursing.
